Mental Health and Well-being

At Luxulyan School, we believe in promoting good mental health and wellbeing for the whole school community. With the pressures of modern life, social media and the impact of the pandemic affecting us all, it is no wonder that we are seeing an increase in mental health problems with children.

At Luxulyan we place high importance on our mental health and wellbeing. Each child is encouraged to identify a trusted adult who they can speak to in times of worry or anxiety. This does not have to be their class teacher – it may be a previous class teacher or another member of staff – we are always available for our pupils

Pyramid of Need

Our 'Pyramid of need' details the support and interventions we provide to support pupils with their mental health and wellbeing.

The school also have a team who are trained in supporting pupils with their wellbeing and can signpost parents and carers to professional support outside of the school if needed.

Bereavement

Dealing with the loss of someone is always difficult, especially at a very young age. Please ask for support from the school if required.  We have staff trained specifically in bereavement counselling.  You may also find these resources helpful.

Penhaligon’s Friends

A Cornish charity who provide support for parents, carers and children in dealing with grief.

Child Bereavement UK

This website has some useful videos for parents and carers to help children understand funerals and deal with grief at Christmas and special occasions.

It also has an extensive list of books which can be used with your child to help them prepare for the death of someone as well as understand the loss once someone has died.
